Air transport

Poland has five important international airports: Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan, Gdansk and Katowice. The Frederic Chopin airport in Warsaw aspires to be the main transit airport for Central and Eastern Europe. Construction of Terminal II of the airport is just starting. Poland’s national carrier, PLL LOT, has been up and flying since the start of the 1930s. Since 1989 a modern fleet, with plenty of connections in Europe, across the Atlantic and the development of charter flight services, have been building a high position for Poland’s civilian airline. The company’s modernization program has been a real success.
Poland is a member of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) and has obligated itself to take part in programs organized under its auspices. One of these programs, accepted with the aim of increasing air space capacity, is Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum (RVSM). The RVSM program was implemented by the air travel safety organization EUROCONTROL, headquartered in Brussels. It started to function in Polish air space in January 2002.
